What is it about the best laid plans?
Today was supposed to have included a second trip to see Aquaman and catching up on Dreamwidth.

Hah!

I have been hobbling around like an old woman today. We're ignoring the fact that turning 50 next week does actually qualify me as an old woman.

You see yesterday we went to Cardiff's Winter Wonderland and Lucy & I went ice-skating. We tried to cajole Jack into coming skating with us, I even tried to bribe him with offers of a good spanking, but as he quite rightly pointed out, it would be a bad idea with his back and knees. Also, he can't skate.

How have I known the man 21 years and not know that he's never been ice-skating?

Today my body has been protesting the hour spent on the ice - and a few falls included in that. I have a black and blue thigh, the leg I broke last summer has been aching and my back has been very stiff. This is a very new sensation for me and it's made me quite grumpy. There was a hot bath this morning, lots of cuddles on the couch and some painkillers have been taken.

I'm now in bed ready for an early night, one knee still aching and swollen (thinking I might have twisted it when I fell?), more painkillers taken

****

That was written at about 9pm last night. Ir appears I fell asleep before posting. It is about 4:15 am on Thursday, I've just been to the bathroom, picked my tablet up and found this still open

Notw to self: tag tomorrow

I hope it's OK to comment randomly--I found your journal through interest-surfing and this post reminded me that my husband has also never been ice-skating and we planned to do it this winter! (We live in a desert, so it's not shocking that he's never been, and a little logistically difficult to make it happen, but we're going to do it!) Anyway, it's awkward to phrase, but your journal is really interesting and I hope you don't mind my subscribing. If that's not OK, please let me know!

Hi! Sonoran, in southern Arizona (Phoenix area). I'm a displaced Midwesterner, though, with a rapidly-crystallizing plan to move back east. :)

i grew up in Prescott, and my sister has lived in/around the Phx metro area for about 20 years now. she's currently in Tempe, and volunteering at a place called the Artists Resource Center, which offers cheap/free art supplies to whoever comes in the door.

Ah! I went to NAU for a few semesters long ago--northern AZ is just beautiful. Though everyone I knew in Flag has been priced out of living there, since the cost of living has skyrocketed and NAU has exploded in size. I always hear about interesting things like that in Tempe, or events I'd love to attend, but I live in the west valley, so driving to Tempe is basically a day trip, thanks to fatigue and whatnot. I went out there for a writing conference at ASU, though, and vowed that one weekend I'd commit to the trek. I'll have to do it before we move!

i've long thought Tempe was the only part of the Phx metro area i'd be willing to live in, if i had to move back to Arizona (which, honestly, i never will, so it's merely idle speculation -- and if i DID have to move to Arizona, i would land in Tucson in a heartbeat, as i really love the climate and the queer/circus/university/arts community there), because it's got that University-city vibe going on, lots of interesting local businesses and events. it is definitely not centrally located or convenient to other parts of the valley!

i have a friend from high school who ended up in Flagstaff, and she has much the same thing to say; it's ridiculously expensive these days. they bought their house 15 or so years ago so they're well-settled, but she is all the time saying the place ain't what it used to be. super cute town, though! and of course, those piney woods. <3

Mmmhmmm, the woods are probably the biggest draw, especially since it just isn't the Flagstaff it once was. (Even when I lived there, people were already saying that!) Still, excited to get out of Phx metro!

oh, ow! i injured my knee shovelling gravel a couple weeks ago and the thing is just refusing to heal as quickly as i'd like, though i do think i'm starting to make progress with it, a couple weeks into the experience. it's so frustrating to find your mobility suddenly limited. i feel your pain!
