quantumcupcakesWe saw Captain Marvel yesterday afternoon and it was sublime. She is my new goddess, and the film is a perfect addition to the Marvel universe - fantastical and well-paced and the right tone of humour. She's not a character I knew anything about before and to my knowledge, I've never seen the actress in anything but she was so powerful and poised
There was a little girl, maybe six or seven, sitting in the row in front of us. And normally, you know, when there’s kids near me in the cinema, I inwardly groan, ‘cause they talk and they fidget and they get up to pee all the time. But when Carol first busts out her full powers, full on GLOWS, this little girl practically levitated in her seat she was bouncing so hard and she punched her fist in the air and went, ‘YEAH!’
And honestly? I’m 50, and I was right there with her.
And that’s why I don’t give a shit what anyone says about movies like this, or Wonder Woman or Ghostbusters, whether it’s good or bad, that’s not what matters. That kid’s reaction is what matters.
